Mayor supports residents of Los Rosales in demand for school for which Council has provided land

Mayor Javier Losada held a meeting with representatives of the Neighbourhood Association of Los Rosales, PA and the Plataforma Cole para Todos to reaffirm the Council's commitment to their demand for a school. Residents expressed their concern to the Mayor that the Xunta is delaying the building, alleging supposed factors in the land provided by the Council.

The Xunta's delay in building the school was analysed in the meeting; the school is vital for a neighbourhood with one of the highest child populations in the city. Residents saw that the Council has provided the land needed, under the same conditions as they have done for other infrastructures like the health centres in Matogrande and Os Mallos, among others. The Mayor guaranteed his total collaboration with the Xunta to build a school that is now one year behind schedule.

The Mayor recalled that Councillor for Education Carlos González-Garcés already demanded fulfilment by the Xunta of an agreement signed in 2008.

The Council reiterated that the Xunta should accept its commitments and stop making excuses to avoid investment that has already been agreed, and is essential for residents, as is the school in Los Rosales.

The Council has invested almost 15 million Euros over the last five years in different infrastructures, services and improvements in Los Rosales, including the nursery school, civic centre, library and sports centre, repaving and lighting, gardens, play parks and the paving of pedestrian areas in the square.
