 Promenade

Just fifteen years ago, La Coruña, a peninsula city surrounded by the ocean, was actually separated from the sea given that the shoreline was inaccessible for most people. Today the city boasts the longest promenade in Europe, officially opened in 1996 but not yet finished. It is one of the city's main roads, a meeting place for thousands of people in leisure hours and a marvellous balcony onto the ocean.

The two way road has two lanes in each direction, the longest bicycle lane in Galicia and large garden areas along its 8.5 km. The next 5 km to O Portiño will be opened in the near future.

The promenade goes round the whole city and gives access to all the beaches, the Tower of Hercules park, the Aqaurium and the Museum of Mankind. The Tram follows the same route, and in the future so will the Overground Metro.

One of the most notable features along the promenade are the decorated streetlights. Tehy were designed specifically for the promenade and each one has a different enamel by local artist Julia Ares. The benches and balustrade are also exclusive.
