 Beaches and Rocks

Our beaches and the surrounding rocks are full of life. Taking a walk along the shoreline means finding remains of coastal life that have washed up onto the shore - sea urchins, shells, seaweed etc.

If you take a look at the rocks at low tide you will discover a hidden world. Seaweed embraces the rocks - and in the pools of seawater there is red seaweed. Who has never seen "Sea Lettuce"? That almost transparent green weed present in just about every rockpool. You will also see crabs, winkles and limpets in the pools - other forms of life do not move around, such as anenomes and acorn barnacles, waiting for high tide to come in. Everyone recognises sea urchins and starfish.

Many birds come here to feed on the lesser forms of life.
