Gardens and Parks
Apart from extraordinary ornamental trees, there is also a thriving community
of little animals. In the city centre gardens like Los Cantones de Méndez
Nuñez, San Carlos and Santa Margarita, there are many birds - the
Iberian chiffchaff, the coal tit, the great tit, the turtledove, the wild pigeon,
the blackbird, and of course, the sparrow and the pigeon. At dawn and
at dusk, during winter, there are great flocks of starlings, and you might also
see falcons trying to catch them. Other birds of our skies are the buzzard,
the sparrow hawk and the common kestrel.
In the parks of San Pedro-Cortigueiro
and Bens there are
flocks of linnets and goldfinches. In winter, pipits
can be seen all over the grass and turtledoves nest among the gorse bushes.
Other animals that live in these large parks are lizards, rabbits and even foxes.
And of course, plenty of smaller invertebrates, the main diet of the above animals.
