 Segregation at home

The philosophy behind La Coruña's waste policy is recovery and recycling, i.e., the possibility to reincorporate certain waste materials in the cosumption cycle.

The National Waste Plan approved the implementation of selective waste collection in January 2000 for all towns with more than 1,000 inhabitants, with a deadline of 2006. However, there are no specific guidelines as to which materials should be separated, just some general advice such as a uniform colour system for containers.

According to this Plan, the final decision about segregation depends on each municipality. This decision not only affects the results in collection but also the other oeprations that make up a recycling programme.

The following waste should be separated
Organic
Inorganic
Paper and cardboard
Glass
Others
