Special waste deposit centres
There are many kinds of waste that do not fit in the regular containers in the
city. Some waste needs special collection, due to its size or toxic level or the
frequency it is produced with. La Coruña is building a network of collection
points for this kind of waste (Special waste collection points) .
The first was opened on 7 September 2001.
Some waste needs special treatment. it has no value and has to be separated from
other waste to avoid the negative impact it can have by itself or by contaminating
byproducts of recycling or compost.
The Treatment Plan has to cover "Dangerous Household
Waste". Each person produces approximately 2 or 3 Kg of such waste.
Some examples are
 |
Cleaning
product, cosmetics or personal hygiene packaging |
 |
Paint,
varnish and dissolvents |
 |
Insecticides,
pesticides, etc. |
 |
Out
of date medicine |
 |
Fluorescent
tubes and special light bulbs |
Special collection points have been designed for these needs, with special
kinds of container for each kind of waste.
There are containers for furniture, household appliances, remains from tree
pruning, small amounts of rubble, scrap metal, tyres and all other kinds of
household waste considered "toxic and dangerous". This includes
batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, small amounts of paint, rust removers, cleaning
product packaging, used mineral oil, used vegetable oil and all kinds of waste
that should be separated from others.
Collection Points also provide information about how important it is for each
and every one of us to take part in the City Plan.
Anybody can use the special collection points to leave household appliances,
furniture, remains from pruning, X-rays, medicine, clothes, paint tins, spray
containers, glass, paper, tyres, rubble etc.
