A significant amount of domestic waste is made up of paper and cardboard, almost 21 % of the total weight, while glass takes up 7 %. Both materials are relatively easy to recycle - in fact, almost 100 % of glass can be recycled.

Material put into continaers should be clean of foreign material, such as tops on bottles or metallic spirals on paper.

There are 273 glass and paper waste collection points in the city. Each one has a container for paper and cardboard and another one for glass. Almost half of the container is underground, thus achieving

 No odours
 Compression of paper and cardboard by its own weight

Each container is 170 cm deep and capacities are 5 m3 (paper) and 3 m3 (glass).

In 2000 47 kg of paper and cardboard per inhabitant were collected, a rate of 49 % in domestic waste. 7 kg of glass per inhabitant were collected, a rate of 24 %.
