The conference will take place from 17 to 20 November, and was confirmed at this year's conference held in Newcastle. A delegation from the City Council of La Coruña was present, with the Councillor for Sports, Esteban Lareo. The city's experience and capacity to organise events were fundamental in the choice as host to the event.
The Tall Ships Races for 2006 were discussed at the conference - La Coruña will be the starting point of the second race. Ships will leave Saint-Malo (France) and sail to Lisbon (Portugal) for the first race, Lisbon to Cádiz and Cádiz to La Coruña will be cruises in company, and the second race will be from La Coruña to Antwerp (Belgium). The fleet will be in the city from 7 to 10 August 2006.
The Races thus return to La Coruña - the last time was in 2002, when the city was proclaimed Best Host Port. The STI chose to come back for the 50th Anniversary in 2006.
At the conference in Newcastle, La Coruña presented an offer to be starting port for the first race from Europe to USA, which is taking shape.
