La Coruña.
A festive city.
The city of La Coruña and its surroundings make up a privileged area for discovering
and enjoying festive events and traditional Galician fairs.

CARNIVALS
La Coruña, just like other Galician cities, celebrates Carnival time in a very special way.
The floats and processions mix with the choqueiros - people wearing any kind of fancy
dress they can find - through the busy streets of the city. It really is a popular carnival.
The spectacular processions make their way through the wide city avenues, although the
best day is doubtless Carnival Tuesday with the procession in the Calle de la Torre, where
thousands of people dress up in the most colourful fancy dresses.

MARÍA PITA FESTIVAL TIME

August in La Coruña means one thing - festivals. There are
various events every day of the month all over the city.
Among numerous concerts and cultural activities of all kinds,
both locals and visitors can enjoy the Medieval Market, when the
Old City returns to the glory of yesteryear, the Sea Battle, commemorating
the English attack in 1589, and the Battle of Flowers, a procession of floats
that puts an end to the festival with a great firework display in Orzán Bay.

THE BONFIRES OF SAN JUAN
On the night of San Juan, the shortest night in the year, La Coruña turns into a giant bonfire.
Every area of the city takes part in this celebration, although the most spectacular part of the
night is the multitude of bonfires on the beaches of Riazor and Orzán. Hundreds of bonfires light
up the sea and thousands of people celebrate the arrival of summer.
